Why Florida matters to college football
Florida is one of the three states — with Texas and California — that anchor college football recruiting nationally. Programs from every conference recruit the corridor running from Miami-Dade through Broward and Palm Beach, and up through Tampa, Orlando and Jacksonville. A large share of rosters at schools thousands of miles away are built on players who grew up here.
Year-round warm weather is the practical reason. Football is played and coached almost continuously, and the high school scene is competitive enough that players arrive on campus having faced a level of opposition many recruits never see.

Three programs, three identities
The three programs covered here sit in different conferences and occupy genuinely different places in the sport. Florida and Florida State are the traditional in-state pair, meeting annually at the end of the regular season in a rivalry that has repeatedly decided national championship races. Miami built its identity in the 1980s and 1990s on a run of national titles and a style that changed how the sport looked.
Because they are split across the SEC and the ACC, head-to-head meetings now carry the added weight of conference prestige. In-state recruiting battles are constant, and a single commitment can move all three programs at once.

FAQ
Florida football questions
Which college football teams are in Florida?
This site covers three: the Florida Gators in the SEC, and Florida State and Miami in the ACC. Each has a full page with schedule, roster, coaching staff, stats, and program history.
What is the biggest rivalry in Florida college football?
Florida against Florida State is the marquee in-state fixture, traditionally played at the end of the regular season. Florida State and Miami is the other long-running rivalry, and all three programs recruit against each other year-round.
Why do so many college football players come from Florida?
Warm weather allows near year-round play and coaching, and the population centers along the southeast coast produce an unusually dense concentration of high school talent. Programs nationwide recruit the state heavily as a result.
Are Florida's teams in the same conference?
No. Florida plays in the SEC while Florida State and Miami are in the ACC, so the in-state games are non-conference fixtures with rivalry stakes rather than league standings attached.
