Ten road defeats and counting

The most striking fact about Florida State is not a ranking or a record but a streak. The Seminoles have lost ten consecutive games away from home, a run stretching back to the 2023 Orange Bowl and covering more than two full calendar years. Five of the twelve games this season are on the road, beginning at Alabama on September 19.

It is an unusual sort of problem because Florida State has not been uniformly poor over that period. The 2025 season opened with an upset of eighth-ranked Alabama in Tallahassee as a double-digit underdog and a 3-0 start inside the top ten, then produced six defeats in the last eight games and a 5-7 finish. The team turned down a bowl invitation afterwards.

Retained, with conditions

Mike Norvell was publicly retained in November 2025 rather than dismissed, in an announcement that paired continuity with an explicit commitment to change in recruiting and player development. He is 38-33 at Florida State overall, but 7-16 since the 13-1 season of 2023 that won the ACC and was left out of the College Football Playoff.

The staff turned over again afterwards. Gus Malzahn left after one season as offensive coordinator and Tim Harris Jr. was promoted from receivers coach to replace him. Tony White stays for a second year on defence, alongside new coaches at running back, defensive end, defensive back, linebacker and special teams.

FAQ

FSU frequently asked questions

What is the FSU 2026 football record?

Florida State is 3-3 through 6 completed games: 3 wins, 3 losses.

When does FSU play next?

Florida State plays next against Miami Hurricanes on Saturday, October 17, 2026, on the road. The kickoff time is TBD. TV coverage is TBD.

Who coaches Florida State?

Mike Norvell is the head coach.

What conference does FSU play in?

Florida State competes in the ACC.

Is Mike Norvell still Florida State's coach?

Yes. Florida State announced in November 2025 that he would be retained for 2026, with the university explicitly pairing that decision with a commitment to change how the programme recruits and develops players. A dismissal would have triggered a large buyout from his 2023 extension.

How has Florida State done since the 2023 ACC title?

Poorly. The Seminoles went 13-1 and won the conference in 2023, then fell to 2-10 in 2024 and 5-7 in 2025. Norvell is 7-16 across those two seasons combined, against 38-33 for his Florida State tenure as a whole, which shows how much of the record predates the decline.
