The job that keeps changing hands
Jon Sumrall is Florida's fifth head coach since Urban Meyer stepped down in 2010. The four before him — Will Muschamp, Jim McElwain, Dan Mullen and Billy Napier — were all dismissed during a season, and none lasted fifty games. Napier went 22-23 across three and a half years and was let go on October 19 with the team at 3-4.
That pattern is the most important fact about this page, and it is a fact about the institution rather than the roster. Florida has the resources, the recruiting base and the history to compete nationally, and has not managed to keep a coach long enough to find out.

A proven winner, at a level below this one
Sumrall arrives with a genuinely strong record: 42-11 in four seasons, two at Troy and two at Tulane, with a conference championship game appearance in every one of them and a College Football Playoff place with Tulane last year. He also arrives having never coached at the Power Four level, which is the open question rather than a criticism.
He brought new coordinators in Buster Faulkner and Brad White, and rebuilt through the portal. The quarterback job was still being contested through the summer between Tramell Jones Jr. and Georgia Tech transfer Aaron Philo. Only six of the twelve games are true home fixtures, which is one fewer than most of the conference.
