The best season in sixty years

Ole Miss went 13-2 in 2025 and finished third in the final AP poll, its highest ranking since 1962. The 13 wins set a program record, and the season included a first College Football Playoff appearance in program history.

In the playoff, Ole Miss beat Tulane 41-10 in the first round and Georgia 39-34 in the Sugar Bowl quarterfinal before losing 31-27 to Miami in the semifinal.

A coaching change mid-run

That playoff run happened after Lane Kiffin left for LSU. Pete Golding, the defensive coordinator, took over for the postseason and has since been given the job outright. 2026 is his first full season as head coach.

Golding kept much of the structure in place — Bryan Brown moves up to defensive coordinator in his third season on staff, John David Baker continues on offense — which is unusual for a program that changed head coaches while still playing.

The Grove

Ole Miss game days are as well known for what happens outside the stadium as inside it. The Grove, a ten-acre expanse of oak trees in the middle of campus, fills with tailgating tents and is routinely described as the best pregame environment in college football.

The Walk of Champions, where the team passes through the Grove on its way to the stadium, runs directly through the middle of it.
