UTA history
Rice-Eccles
Utah's stadium hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympics, and the cauldron still stands beside it. Few college venues have that kind of second life.
The student section, known as the MUSS, is among the more organized and consistently loud in the country, which matters at altitude in Salt Lake City where visiting teams are already dealing with thinner air.

Proving the climb was possible
Utah's undefeated 2008 season, capped by beating Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, was among the strongest arguments that a program outside the traditional power structure could compete with anyone. The program has since moved through the Pac-12 and into the Big 12.
Kyle Whittingham led the program from 2005 through 2025 and became its all-time wins leader before stepping down. Morgan Scalley, a Utah player and lifelong Utah coach, was promoted to replace him.
