OU history
One of the sport's traditional powers, in a rivalry that survived conference realignment and one that did not.

OU history
The Red River rivalry
Oklahoma plays Texas annually at a neutral site in Dallas during the State Fair, one of the few fixtures that has kept its setting for a century. Both programs left the Big 12 for the SEC together, so the game survived the move.
Playing a rivalry at a neutral site, with the stadium split down the middle, produces an atmosphere no campus game replicates.
OU history
Bedlam, and what changed
Oklahoma and Oklahoma State have met for more than a century in a series known as Bedlam. For most of that history they shared a conference, which guaranteed an annual meeting with standings attached.
The move to the SEC while Oklahoma State stayed in the Big 12 ended that guarantee — the clearest single example of what realignment has cost the sport in regional rivalries.
