Back in the top ten
Texas A&M went 11-2 in 2025, reached the College Football Playoff as the seventh seed, and finished eighth in the final AP poll — its first appearance in a final poll since 2020.
The program opens 2026 ranked eighth, which reflects a genuine climb rather than a preseason assumption. Mike Elko is in a third season, having built his reputation on defense before taking the job.

A rebuilt staff
Both coordinator positions turned over after the 2025 season. Offensive coordinator Collin Klein left to become head coach at Kansas State, and Holmon Wiggins was promoted from co-offensive coordinator. Defensive coordinator Jay Bateman departed for Kentucky, with Lyle Hemphill taking over.
Travis Williams joined in January 2026 as associate head coach for defense and linebackers coach, after three seasons coordinating the Arkansas defense. The Aggies had one of the SEC's strongest defenses in 2025 and return several of its leading players.

The 12th Man
Texas A&M's student body stands for the entire game, a tradition that dates to a student being called from the stands to be ready to play in 1922. The phrase has since been borrowed across sport, but it originates here.
Midnight Yell Practice, held at Kyle Field the night before home games, draws crowds in its own right and has no real equivalent elsewhere in college football.
