TCU history
Two recognized national titles, a Rose Bowl win, and a modern College Football Playoff run connect TCU's Southwest Conference roots to its Big 12 era.
TCU history
Fort Worth and the first championships
TCU's football program grew with Fort Worth. The Horned Frogs won a Southwest Conference championship in 1929, and the new Amon G. Carter Stadium opened the next year with a 40–0 win over Arkansas. The stadium has remained the program's home since 1930, even as its seating and amenities have been rebuilt around the original site.
The athletics department lists national championships in 1935 and 1938. Davey O'Brien led the undefeated 1938 team, winning the Heisman Trophy in a season that ended with a Sugar Bowl victory. Those two seasons anchor TCU's early national story, long before its later conference moves.

The Rose Bowl and a move into the Big 12
The 2010 Horned Frogs finished 13–0 after beating Wisconsin 21–19 in the Rose Bowl. It was a national statement for a program then playing outside the major automatic-qualifying conferences. TCU joined the Big 12 for the 2012 season, bringing familiar Texas rivalries into a new league setting.
Amon G. Carter Stadium was extensively renovated for the Big 12 era. The main rebuild opened in 2012, with later expansion on the east side. The stadium's listed capacity is 46,000, and the program recorded a crowd of 53,294 against Colorado in 2023 using additional game-day seating.

The 2022 playoff run
In Sonny Dykes's first season, TCU went unbeaten through the 2022 regular season, then beat Michigan 51–45 in the Fiesta Bowl semifinal to reach the College Football Playoff national championship game. The championship appearance is distinct from the program's recognized national titles in 1935 and 1938.
The 2025 team won nine games and closed with an overtime Alamo Bowl victory against USC. Those recent chapters sit beside an older history that spans several conferences, including the Southwest Conference and Mountain West before the Big 12.
