SYR history
The 1959 title
Syracuse completed an undefeated, untied 1959 season and won the national championship. The school’s football chronology treats that season as a defining high point in the program’s history.
The 1960s also brought prominent individual stars and bowl appearances. Those milestones belong to an earlier era than the 2026 roster led by Fran Brown.

The Dome in Syracuse
The Carrier Dome opened in 1980; the home building is now named the JMA Wireless Dome. Its indoor setting gives the Orange a distinctive home venue for fall football in central New York.
In 2026, the Orange host New Hampshire, Cal, Louisville, SMU, Clemson, and Notre Dame, while the team travels for the other six regular-season games.
