One win, and none against an FBS team
Oklahoma State finished 1-11 in 2025 and 0-9 in the Big 12. The single victory came against an FCS opponent, which means the Cowboys went a full season without beating a team at their own level. Mike Gundy, who had been head coach since 2005 and was the longest-serving in the conference, was dismissed on September 23 after three games. Doug Meacham finished the year as interim.
That is the lowest baseline of any programme on this site, and it is worth stating plainly rather than softening. A 69-3 defeat at Oregon in week two was the point at which the season was widely understood to be over.

A rebuild, and a schedule built to allow one
Eric Morris arrives from North Texas with an Air Raid offence and an entirely new staff, including coordinators Sean Brophy and Skyler Cassity. He is the first new head coach in Stillwater in twenty-one years, which is itself a considerable adjustment for a programme that had known only one voice since 2005.
The schedule gives him room. Oklahoma State avoids Arizona, BYU and Utah, hosts Texas Tech rather than travelling, and plays an FCS opponent in September. The counterweight is six road games, more than any other team covered here, including a stretch of three in four weeks through late October and November.
