Tennessee

Neyland and the Vol Navy

Neyland Stadium sits on the bank of the Tennessee River in Knoxville, which produced one of the sport's genuinely distinctive traditions: supporters arrive by boat, tie up along the shore, and tailgate on the water. The Vol Navy is not a marketing invention but something that grew up on its own.

The stadium is among the largest in college football, and the checkerboard end zones are recognizable from a still photograph, which is not true of many venues.

Tennessee

The SEC East picture

Tennessee opens 2026 ranked 20th, which reflects a program that has climbed back into relevance without yet reclaiming the position it held in the 1990s. In a conference where Georgia, Alabama, Texas and Oklahoma all recruit nationally, that climb is measured in single-game results rather than seasons.

The state produces solid high school talent through Memphis, Nashville and Knoxville, though not at the volume of Georgia or Florida, so Tennessee recruits regionally as much as at home.
