Michigan

The Big House

Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor is the largest stadium in the United States and among the largest in the world. Its nickname is literal rather than poetic, and its scale is part of the program's identity: crowds well over a hundred thousand are routine rather than exceptional.

The bowl is deceptively low from outside, since much of it is dug into the ground, which is one of the more quietly impressive pieces of stadium design in the sport.

Michigan

Whittingham arrives

Michigan begins 2026 under Kyle Whittingham, hired after 21 seasons at Utah where he became that program's all-time wins leader. Both coordinator posts also changed hands, so every senior decision-maker on the football staff is in a first year in Ann Arbor.

The schedule gives the new staff room: four straight home games to open, and only four road games all season. The season is decided in November, with Michigan State, a trip to Oregon, UCLA, and then Ohio State.

Michigan

Two trophies a year

Michigan plays for the Little Brown Jug against Minnesota and the Paul Bunyan Trophy against Michigan State, then closes with The Game. Few programs have that many fixtures with something physical attached, and the Michigan State rivalry in particular dates to 1898.
